Temporary No Parking Signs & Posting Rules

How Temporary No Parking Signs Work

Temporary no parking signs are used to reserve curb space for construction, utility work, filming, special events, and other permitted activities within the public right-of-way.

Unlike permanent parking signs, temporary no parking signs are time-limited, permit-based, and governed by city-specific rules. They are only valid when issued, posted, and documented in accordance with the governing agency’s requirements.

Public Ready does not sell permanent or retail parking signs.

What Makes Temporary No Parking Postings Enforceable

Temporary no parking signs are only enforceable when they are issued, posted, and documented in accordance with the requirements of the governing agency. Enforcement authority is not created by the sign itself, but by compliance with permit conditions and posting rules established by the jurisdiction.

Agencies may specify requirements such as advance posting timelines, approved sign formats, minimum spacing, visibility standards, and documentation procedures. Failure to meet these requirements may result in postings that are not enforceable.

Public Ready supports upstream documentation and coordination related to temporary no parking postings. Enforcement decisions, towing authorization, and citation issuance are handled by local authorities. Posting requirements and enforcement standards vary by jurisdiction.

Who Is Authorized to Post Temporary No Parking Signs

Posting authority varies by jurisdiction and agency.

 Depending on the city:

  • Signs may be posted by the city itself

  •  Signs may be posted by an approved permit agent or other authorized party

  • Signs may require advance notice windows and proof of posting

  • Improperly posted signs may be unenforceable

Temporary no parking signs must be posted exactly as required by the governing agency to be valid.

Los Angeles – Temporary No Parking Sign Posting

In Los Angeles, temporary parking restriction posting is handled through Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), Special Traffic Control.

Posting requirements, notice periods, quantities, and enforcement rules are established by the City and are subject to change.

Public Ready coordinates documentation and posting requirements in accordance with LADOT rules when temporary parking restrictions are part of a permitted scope.

Temporary no parking restrictions are typically issued as part of a broader permit process. See our permits overview for more information.

How Public Ready Is Involved

Public Ready supports temporary no parking requirements by:

  • Identifying posting requirements based on city rules

  • Coordinating or performing temporary no parking sign posting when required or authorized by the governing agency

  • Maintaining compliance with notice, placement, and documentation standards

Public Ready does not sell signs, operate retail sign rentals, or provide towing or enforcement services.

Posting is performed only when required or authorized by the governing agency and within the scope of an approved permit.
